Uprooted is a typographic journey inspired by my family’s origins in Lviv - a city they were forced to leave but never forgot - created for the ISTD brief.
Based on an interview with my great aunt, who lived through these events, the project uses real roots to create gritty, organic textures, while Polish typefaces express cultural identity. A custom typeface drawn from my grandfather’s handwriting adds a personal layer, contrasted by a Blackletter-style typeface representing Germany and a Constructivist one symbolising Russia.
The project transforms personal history into visual language, using typography and texture to bridge memory, place, and identity.
